A little-known fix that one should keep in the bag-of-tricks, is to clear the CMOS. It's not a panacea, but I discovered this trick when building PCs w/ a certain mboard.

If you have unexplainable hware-related (ie. the PC won't boot properly or at all) or Windows-related failures (ie. BSODs), try clearing the CMOS. Costs nothing and can't hurt anything. I keep WIPECMOS on my boot CDs for this purpose....The Hawk

can anyone else verify if windows XP service pack 3 isnt genuinified after 14 odd days it implements random crashes just to annoy that installed version?

Nope. I've installed it many times w/o incident after 14 days. Esp w/ the VLK version....:-- The Hawk --:
